Three juveniles killed in Jashore Child Development Center
Three teenagers have been killed in a clash at Jashore Child Development Center. Another 14 children were injured. The clash took place inside the Child Development Center on Thursday (August 13) evening.
The bodies of the deceased were sent to the 250-bed General Hospital Morgue in Jashore in the evening. Jashore Additional Superintendent of Police Touhidul Islam confirmed the incident. The matter came to light after the bodies of the three reached Jashore General Hospital in the evening.
The deceased were identified as Naeem Hossain, 18, son of Nannu Pramanik of Talibpur East, Shibganj,Bogura, Parvez Hasan Rabbi, 18, son of Roza Miah of Daulatpur, Khulna and Russell alias Sujan, 18, son of Nurul Islam of Mahipur village under Sherpur upazila. Among them, Naeem Hossain was detained in the Child Development Center with charge of rape while Parvez was detained with murder charge.
Jashore Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ashraf Hossain said over his mobile phone at around 12:15 pm on Thursday, three people were killed and 14 others were injured in the clash. The injured have been admitted to the hospital.
‘We are not clear what caused the clash’, he said. There will be an inquiry committee in this regard. Relatives of the victims will arrive tomorrow (Friday). If they file a case, it will be accepted and investigated. The culprits will be identified and handed over to the court.
However, Mushfiqur Rahman, Psycho Social Counselor of Jashore Child Development Center, told Barta 24.com over his mobile phone around 12 pm, several children were injured in a clash between two groups of inmates at the center on August 3. At that time the two sides were called and settled. The two groups clashed again around 2pm on Thursday over the incident. At least 10 inmates were injured. The doctor in charge of the center gave them first aid. Shortly before evening, Naeem (18), Rabbi (18) and Russell Hossain (18) were sent to Jashore General Hospital as their condition was critical. The doctors declared them dead when they were taken to the 250-bed General Hospital.
According to a police source, there are Pavel group and Rabiul group in the center. Fighting erupted around 2 pm on Thursday over the dominance of both groups. As a result, Parvez Hasan Rabbi of Pavel Group, Russell alias Sujan and Naeem Hossain of Rabiul Group were seriously injured. Authorities at the Child Development Center took them to the 250-bed General Hospital in Jashore around 6 pm, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
There were 10 injured in the clash, Abdullah al-Masud, the centre's assistant director told the journalists. Three inmates were killed. One of the injured is undergoing treatment at Jashore General Hospital and the rest inside the center. He could not immediately name the injured.
Jashore General Hospital emergency department doctor Amiya Das said three bodies came from the juvenile development center within an hour and a half. Naeem Hasan's body arrived at 7:38 pm, Parvez Hasan's at 6:30 pm and Russell's body arrived at 8 pm.
He added that there were signs of injuries on the head of a person with a heavy object. No signs of injuries to the bodies of others have yet been identified.
Meanwhile, Jashore Deputy Commissioner Tamizul Islam Khan after receiving the newsat night with a large number of police including Superintendent of Police Muhammad Ashraf Hossain, Additional District Magistrate Muhammad Abul Laise went to the spot.
Deputy Commissioner Tamizul Islam Khan told reporters from the spot, we are trying to understand the incident. The cause of the murder will be investigated by the committee.
It is learned that there are two Adolescent Development (now Child) Centers in the country. One at Tongi in Gazipur and the other is located at Poolerhat in Jashore suburb. Juvenile delinquents are kept in these development centers for correction without being sent to jail. The organization is run under the control of the Department of Social Services.
On August 29, 2011, a child named Akash (12) was strangled to death and then strangled with a piece of tin. Akash was sent from Chuadanga to Jashore Juvenile Development Center in 2006. On June 30, 2019, a child named Nur Islam (15) committed suicide in this center. Nur Islam was sent to Jashore from Gaibandha on May 22 of that year on charges of theft.
Besides, on May 5, 2014, there was a clash between the police and the inmates at the center. At that time, some teenagers cut their bodies with broken glass and protested. The clashes erupted over allegations that a visitor had beaten a guardian. At that time, the teenagers vandalized the center and attacked the police barrack located there.
