Former Indian President Pranab Mukharjee passes away

Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has died. He was 84 years old at the time of his death.

He died at the Army Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi on Monday (August 31) after being in a coma for more than three weeks after undergoing brain surgery.

In a tweet, Pranab Mukherjee's son Abhijit Mukherjee confirmed the news.

Pranab Mukherjee had been admitted to the Army Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi since August 10. Shortly after he was admitted to the hospital, doctors operated on him on an emergency basis to remove the blood clots in his brain. Then the former president went into a deep coma. He was also diagnosed with coronavirus infection. He tweeted that himself.

Pranab Mukherjee was the President of India from 2012 to 2016. Before becoming President of India Pranab Mukharjee held several important positions in the government and also in his party Indian National Congress. He was also a tested friend of Bangladesh. In August last year, he was awarded the highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna.
