Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep grief over the death of Pranab Mukherjee, the former President of India, a prominent politician of the subcontinent and a ‘true friend’ of Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was overwhelmed with grief over the death of Pranab Mukherjee. Along with Pranab Mukherjee, the Prime Minister recalled many memories of the Bangabandhu family and Sheikh Hasina herself.

In a condolence message, Sheikh Hasina said Pranab Mukherjee's unique contribution as a politician and our best friend in the great liberation war of Bangladesh will never be forgotten. I always remember with respect his outstanding contribution to the liberation war.

The Prime Minister further said that Pranab Mukherjee has always supported us during his exile in India after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 15th August 1975. He used to inquire about my family in such difficult times; he came and stood by me in case of any need. Even after returning to the country, Pranab Mukherjee has given his support and encouragement. He was our guardian and family friend. He has given courage in any crisis.

Sheikh Hasina said in the death of Pranab Mukherjee, India lost a wise and patriotic leader and Bangladesh lost a loved one. He will survive as a shining star in the politics of the subcontinent. The Prime Minister wished peace to his departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the members of his bereaved family.
