India stops onion export: friendship questioned!
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of foreign affairs has expressed displeasure over India's sudden halt to onion exports. The committee thinks the ministry has been asked to look into whether there is a conspiracy behind the sudden halt in onion exports. The parliamentary committee informed the ministry that the friendship between the two countries is being questioned by stopping the export of onions.
Anger was expressed at a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of foreign affairs held at the Sangsad Bhavan on Sunday (September 20) afternoon. However, the ministry told the parliamentary committee that the Indian government regretted the incident and withdrew its decision.
The meeting was chaired by committee chairman Muhammad Farooq Khan was attended by foreign minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, state minister Shahriar Alam, Nurul Islam Nahid, Golam Farooq Khand Prince, Dr. Habib –e- Millat, Nahim Razzak, Kazi Nabil Ahmed and Nizam Uddin Jalil (John) participated.
The meeting discussed in detail the steps to be taken to strengthen the process of development of relations with Bangladesh by identifying the challenges of the present relations between the neighboring countries’ In order to expand trade, it is recommended to hold regular meetings of mutual business delegations with neighboring countries, issue commemorative stamps and exchange views at the top level. The meeting was also informed that both the BGB and the BSF have pledged to reduce the number of border accidents to zero.
The meeting was further informed that friendly countries which have invented and successfully tested the Covid-19 vaccine are being contacted. Concerned countries have assured that our country will get the vaccine as soon as it comes in the market.
In this regard, the officials in charge of the Bangladesh Mission have been maintaining constant contact with the concerned countries. In addition, the committee opined that if the drug manufacturers and research institutes established in our country are successful in inventing and testing the vaccine of Covid-19, the vaccine can also be procured from them.
After the meeting, Muhammad Farooq Khan, chairman of the committee, on India's onion export, told Barta24.com, 'The ministry has told us that the Indian government regrets this and has lifted the ban. I told them why they had to withdraw, and why they had to express their regrets. We have to see if there is any conspiracy inside it'.
He said, ‘In our meeting with India on September 29, the issues of border killings and ban on onion exports should be raised loudly.’ Our friendship is being questioned because of the ban on onion exports. '
In addition, in accordance with international norms and policies, it is recommended that the ministry consult with the ministry of foreign affairs before accepting any kind of gift / honor / assistance from a foreign institution / country.
