Bodies of two including the university student yet to be recovered
Missing bodies of university student Sadia Islam Suchona and her cousin Rimon could not be recovered yet after five hours the engine-driven boat capsized in the Padma river in Haripur area on the outskirts of Rajshahi city.
At the time of writing this report on Friday (September 25) at around 10 pm, the diving team of the Fire Service continued the rescue operation in the area of Padma.
Zakir Hossain, deputy assistant director of the Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defense, told Barta24.com, ‘The rescue operation for the two missing students is still going on. Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil also visited the spot at night. He is keeping in touch with the overall situation.
Meanwhile, the missing Sadia Islam Suchna is not a student of Rajshahi University. Her relatives have confirmed that she is a BBA third semester student of American International University Bangladesh (AIUB).
Suchna lives with her family in Dhanmondi area of Dhaka. She recently has come on a visit in her uncle Jalal Uddin's village home in Kholabona area of Paba upazila. Another missing person is Rimon (14) is the cousin of Suchona. Rimon hails from Naogaon.
According to the Fire Service and local residents, an engine-driven boat with a boatman and 12 passengers sank in the Padma River in Haripur area around 5:30 pm on Friday. Later another boat went and rescued 11 people including the boatman. However, university student Sadia Islam Suchana and her cousin Rimon are still missing.
Earlier, Zakir Hossain, deputy assistant director of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, said the condition of two of the 11 rescued was critical. They were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
