Four killed in gas cylinder blast in Gazipur

Four people, including a husband and wife, were killed when a gas cylinder exploded at Kalampur in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur. At least 15 others were burnt and injured. The injured have been shifted to various clinics and hospitals.

A gas cylinder exploded in a house around 5:15 am on Monday (January 11). About 50 tinshed houses in four houses were gutted in the fire that broke out after the blast.

The deceased were identified as Milon Mia, 46, and his wife Munni, 30. The other two are neighbors Farhad Hossain (40) and Awal (32). Milon and Munni are garments workers. Their home is in Sandhailpur village of Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha. And Farhad and Awal used to rent a room next to Milon-Munni couple.

Farhad's house is in Jarippur of Gobindaganj police station. Awal's house is in Jagannathpur of Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha.

Kabirul Alam, station officer of the Kaliakair Fire Brigade, said the accident happened when a tenant of Mohammad Ali of Kalampur area went to light a gas stove for cooking in the morning. The fire caused by the explosion spread to nearby houses. Upon receiving the news, the fire brigade members came around 7 am and put out the fire in an hour's effort. Four bodies have been recovered from the spot.
