Hefazat leader Mamunul Haque taken to DB office

Mawlana Mamunul Haque, central joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam and general secretary of Dhaka metropolis, has been taken to the Detective Branch (DB) office on Minto Road in the capital.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Tejgaon Division Mrityunjay De Sajal confirmed the matter on Sunday night (April 18). He will be kept in the custody of DB police until he is taken to court on Monday (April 19).

Earlier, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station Abdul Latif told the media that the police would seek a seven-day remand after he was taken to court on Monday.

He said Mamunul would be sent to court tomorrow and remand for seven days will be sought. An investigation was underway in a case of vandalism and sabotage of Mohammadpur police station in 2020. We arrested Hefazat leader Mamunul as his involvement in the investigation became clear. Besides, cases have been filed against him in different parts of the country.

The Tejgaon Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Mamunul Haque from Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasa in Mohammadpur around 2:15 pm on Sunday (April 18).
