One lakh doses of Pfizer vaccine arriving on Sunday
One lakh 820 doses of Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine from Covax, a global initiative of the World Health Organization, is coming next Sunday (May 30).
Maidul Islam Pradhan, public relations officer of the Health Directorate said this on Thursday (May 27) evening.
Earlier, the Department of Drug Administration approved the use of the Pfizer vaccine on Thursday (May 27) subject to verification and selection at the request of the Directorate of Health of the Ministry of Health.
Pfizer was approved as the fourth vaccine to be used in the country. Earlier, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, Russia's Sputnik-V vaccine and China's Sinopharm vaccine were approved for emergency use in Bangladesh.
The trade name of the vaccine invented by German research firm BioNtech and US pharmaceutical company Pfizer, is 'Comirnati'. The United Kingdom was the first to approve this vaccine. The World Health Organization has also approved the use of the vaccine. The vaccine is now being used in several countries in the developed world. The needle-syringe that is needed to apply it is different from the conventional needle-syringe. This vaccine needs to be kept at an extremely cool temperature. If not stored at a temperature of minus 70 degrees, the quality of the vaccine will be lost.
