Barishal incident is an isolated one: Home Minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has termed the attack on the official residence of Barishal Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Munibur Rahman and the clash between law enforcers and supporters of the local Mayor as isolated. "These things always happen, it's nothing new," he said.
The Home Minister made the remarks while addressing a discussion meeting of the National Mourning Day organized by Dhaka Metropolitan North Chhatra League on Monday (August 23) afternoon.
The Home Minister said the law enforcement agencies have done their own duty. Politicians do politics; there can be misunderstandings with them. It's nothing new, it's an isolated incident.
An understanding was reached last Sunday night after a meeting in the official residence of Barishal Divisional Commissioner Saiful Islam Badal with the belligerent parties. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin Haider, Commissioner of Police Shahabuddin Khan, Mayor of Barisal City Corporation Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah and other government officials and party leaders and workers.
Asked by reporters about the whereabouts of Bangabandhu's killers, he said the whereabouts of one or two of the killers have been confirmed. The process of bringing them to the country is underway. They will be brought to the country to face trial.
The Minister further said that the assassins wanted to erase Bangabandhu's blood from the country, but their plot was not successful because dead Mujib is much stronger than living Mujib.
