Unstable Afghanistan is a threat to security: Bangladesh
Bangladesh sees unstable Afghanistan as a serious threat to regional and global peace and security.
Bangladesh's Ambassador to the United Nations and Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Md. Mostafizur Rahman said this.
Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the United Nations believes that an inclusive political dialogue based on national sovereignty and territorial integrity is essential for the establishment of lasting peace in Afghanistan.
He said Bangladesh wants to see Afghanistan as a peaceful, stable, prosperous, responsible and effective state.
At the same time, he reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to contribute to the reconstruction and socio-economic development of Afghanistan as a fraternal and friendly country. He also called on the United Nations to take specific steps to prevent another humanitarian catastrophe in the South Asian region.
The special session of the UN Human Rights Council was convened at the request of hundreds of countries, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and member states of the European Union. At the end of the session, a resolution entitled "Development and Protection of Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan" was unanimously adopted.
