Jahangir Alam, who was expelled from the Awami League for life for insulting Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is also losing the mayoral post this time. He has been suspended from the post of mayor.

At a press conference at the Secretariat on Thursday (November 25) at 4 pm,  Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Tajul Islam informed about the decision to temporarily dismiss Jahangir Alam from the post of Gazipur City Mayor.

Earlier, the local government ministry had announced the formation of a three-member panel mayor in Gazipur City Corporation. The information was given in a press release signed by PRO Haider Ali of the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives on Thursday.

In a viral audio, there was an uproar in Gazipur over Mayor Jahangir's statement about Bangabandhu. The Central Awami League protested against the general secretary of Gazipur metropolitan Awami League Jahangir.

The issue of Mayor Jahangir came up in the meeting of Central Awami League on  November 19. There, Jahangir Alam was expelled from the Awami League for life with the cancellation of the party's initial membership. On the same night, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader also said that he would send a letter to the local government department to take legal action against Jahangir Alam.
