Tremor jolts several places including the capital

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake has been felt in different parts of the country including Dhaka and Chattogram. The quake was felt at 5:45 a.m. on Friday (November 26).

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake had a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was reported 20 kilometers northwest of Hakha, the capital of the Chinese state of Myanmar, bordering Bangladesh, India and Myanmar.

The quake struck at a depth of 42 km below the surface. The epicenter was reported below the ground, however; no tsunami alert was issued.
