Sudden hailstorm in Chapainawabganj
There was a sudden hailstorm in Chapainawabganj. On Wednesday (January 12) at around 9:30 pm, hailstorms with sudden gusts of wind started. It lasted for about 15 minutes. Thousands of pedestrians faced trouble. Meanwhile, the hailstorm has caused extensive damage to crop lands, said the concerned. Many said they have never seen hailstorm this winter.
It is learned that hail has fallen in Ranihati, Ramchandrapur, Chhatrajitpur, Maharajpur, Bargharia, Ramjivanpur, Babupur, Nayalabhanga and other places of the district. However, no hail was reported anywhere except Sadar Upazila and Shibganj.
Masud Rana of Ramchandrapur Hat said there were clouds in the sky since afternoon. It started raining suddenly from evening. But at half past nine in the night, a heavy hailstorm started. It lasted for about 15 minutes. This has caused huge damage to our mustard land.
Babu Ali of Ramjivanpur village said, "We have not seen the sun for the last two days." It was not sunny all day today. But it did not rain. However, it started raining heavily in the evening. Later, hail started falling around 9:30 pm. About 20 minutes of hail filled the area around the house. At this season I have never seen hail before. The locals consider this hailstorm as a miracle.
Faisal Mahmud of Maharajpur area said it had been raining since evening. Around nine o'clock at night, a sudden gust of wind began to blow. Shortly after this, hail started falling. This has caused extensive damage to various crops.
Muhammad Nazrul Islam, deputy director of the Chapainawabganj Agriculture Extension Department, said hail had fallen in several places in Sadar upazila and Shibganj. This has caused damage to many crops. However, it is not possible to say the amount of damage now. I will be able to go to the field in the morning and give details after the investigation.
