Dhaka-Beijing meeting today, the issue that will dominate

Bangladesh and China are holding Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) meeting at Foreign Secretary level. The meeting will be held in Dhaka on Saturday (May 27) to improve bilateral relations. For this, Chinese Foreign Ministry Vice Minister Sun Weideng reached Dhaka on Friday night.
Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen on behalf of Dhaka and Vice Minister Sun Weidong on behalf of Beijing will lead their respective countries in the FOC.
According to sources, Rohingya issue will be important in the foreign secretary level discussions. One of the objectives of today's meeting is to advance the dialogue between the three parties in Kunming. Apart from this, various bilateral issues between Bangladesh and China will also be discussed.
According to another source, China is interested in a high-level political visit from Bangladesh within this year. This time it might be an invitation.
Sun Weideng is scheduled to have a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday. If everything goes well, Beijing may even extend an invitation for a high-level political visit.
It may be noted that the Prime Minister last visited China in 2019.
