To implement the new curriculum-2022, new teaching methods have been introduced in two classes. Even though the first step of the implementation of the curriculum is over, the teachers, students and parents are in trouble with the ‘assignments.’

Lessons are being taught through various activities including assignments and projects since the beginning of this year in order to make the class VI and class VII students a part of the program. Principals and teachers of educational institutions have been trained in several phases. 'Naipunya' app has been launched recently to evaluate the results of teachers and students. But students and parents have expressed distress over this.

Students say assignments are creating extra pressure. Even if the teacher gives assignments in the classroom, they are not getting proper guidance. Again, the parents are not aware of the new curriculum and are unable to provide any kind of support. They are struggling to stay awake at night to prepare assignments and projects by myself.

Abu Hena Rafi, a seventh grade student of Dhaka Collegiate School, said that it takes a lot of time to understand how to do the assignment. Have to stay up at night to do assignments. Sometimes I don't understand which one to write after which. Earlier, if I told my parents, they would understand. I don't get that chance now.

Farzin Lubna, a student of Banglabazar Girls' High School, told Barta24.com, I go home after taking classes at school all day. After some rest, you have to work on assignments and projects again. It is late at night, it is late to get up in the morning. There have been many changes in our daily routine as compared to earlier which we cannot not take easily.

Sabera Sultana, the parent of a Muslim High School student in the capital, told Barta24.com that our expenses have increased while doing assignments. Various items have to be bought, which was not a problem before. And now my child has to do it alone. I used to show it earlier. Now I myself do not understand how to help him? Now there is no test, how to know if he is passing or failing! But we were not told anything about this from the school. As parents, we are concerned.

A senior teacher of a government school, who did not want to be named, said, "We have not yet received any training on the new curriculum." What just happened. As a result, I don't know how to teach. Almost half of the year has passed before we get all the books for the new curriculum. Students are enjoying new subjects but not learning much. We can give our best if we get adequate training and all the books from the beginning of the year.

Pogoz Laboratory School Principal (Acting) Abdus Sattar told Barta24.com that our students are enjoying the new curriculum. They are working happily. How our instructions have been, not to add pressure. However, there is dissatisfaction among a section of parents. After a while they will get used to it.

National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) member (curriculum) Md. Moshiuzzaman told Barta24.com that the assignment or project should be done by the student. Teachers or parents will not. And if teachers and parents do his work, he will not be able to learn. As we know, his work will not be like that of an expert. We want to know if he knows the process of doing the work. Whether he can do as he is told! Now if a teacher cannot give good instruction, let him do as he is given.

He said about the parents getting used to the new curriculum, did our parents understand anything about the previous curriculum? He taught note guides and sent them for coaching. Here is the issue of parental participation, in terms of data collection. If a student needs to know any information while doing an assignment, he/she will take the help of the parent. If the guardian himself knows, he will tell it, if not, someone in the community will help him to find out about it. Information must be collected from various sources.

Giving an example, he said, if there is any health related issue, the student will get basic idea about it from his guardian. He will tell you how he works when faced with that problem. Then go to the health worker. Talk to the drugstore owner. He will go to experts in that matter.

Regarding the parent conference, he said that there was a parent conference in all the curricula. But now a little more is being asked to send a message to the parents. Parents do not need to understand the curriculum, nor do they need to do assignments. He will help his child find as much information as possible only when he needs it.
