'It is difficult to protect human rights by simply making and enforcing laws'
It is difficult to protect human rights only by creating and implementing laws, said Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest of a reception at Chattogram Press Club auditorium on Saturday (June 1).
Bangladesh Paribesh Surakkha Andolon Central Joint Secretary General Saifuddin Salam Mithu has been appointed as the Executive Director (Administration) of Bangladesh by the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) and the Chattogram Metropolitan and Divisional Branch of the organization organized this reception.
President of Bangladesh National Board M.A. Hashem Raju presided over the event and Ekushey Medalist educationist Professor Dr. Jinbodhi Vikkhu inaugurated. The main speaker was Secretary General of Bangladesh Environment Protection Movement and President of Chattogram University Biology Environment Forum (CUBEF). M. A. Gaffer. Apart from this, Karnaphuli river researcher and Senior Vice Chairman of Bangladesh Paribesh Surakkha Andolon (BAPSA) Bir Muktijoddha Professor Dr. Muhammad Idris Ali and District Bar Association President Mohammad Nazim Uddin Chowdhury were the special guests.
In the speech as the chief guest Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman said that human rights are not limited to any country, group, race, religion and caste in the world, rather it is the inherent right of all people across the world. No one has the right to violate this right. It is difficult to protect this right by making and enforcing laws alone. To protect these rights and establish human rights, awareness, sympathy, sincerity and empathy are needed.
Ekushe Medal Awarded Educationist Professor Dr. Jinbodhi Vikkhu said, I call on everyone to come forward in the implementation of human rights in the hope that everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy the basic rights regardless of men and women, religion and caste.
Biologist and Secretary General of BAPSA Professor Dr. M. A. Gaffar said that as the oppression of the powerful has been happening over the ages, the lovers of humanity have always come forward to prevent the oppressors. The ideal of human rights workers is to come forward with sympathy and cooperation for the welfare of humanity, helpless, oppressed, distressed masses.
In the President's speech, MA Hashem Raju said that without the joint sincere efforts and cooperation of all professionals from all levels of society, elite and conscious citizens, human rights can never be implemented. Therefore, everyone will come forward to implement, protect and prevent violations of human rights.
The guest of honor Saifuddin Salam Mithu said, I express my greetings and gratitude to all the guests and human rights activists present at today's event, for giving reception to an insignificant human rights activist like me. If all of you come forward to protect human rights, a beautiful Bangladesh, a peaceful world will be created.
The ceremony concluded with floral felicitation, honor crest and certificate felicitation to the guest of honor Saifuddin Salam Mithu.
