Sialbari Jheel is like a dengue factory
Mirpur Rupnagar residential area of the capital. Hundreds of thousands of people live in the area. Besides several government buildings there are schools and playgrounds. However, the threat of dengue has increased due to the increase in the infestation of mosquitoes produced in the dirty water of the lake in Rupnagar, Duaripara and adjacent areas. Residents are fed up with the smell of water.
Locals complain that the Jheel is not cleaned regularly, let alone mosquito killer spray under the city protection. This lake of Rupnagar has become full of dirt. Besides, due to the lack of awareness of the local people, the canals and roads are getting polluted. However, the city corporation is not taking necessary measures.
In Mirpur-2 Rupnagar Residential, Sialbari 8/9 road, black smelly water is seen flowing in the lake. There are thickets of trees along the side of the lake, and the dirt is stuck there. Mosquito larvae are floating in the water. Residents said that mosquitoes are spreading in the foul-smelling water of the lake, dengue infection and health risks are increasing for the residents. They are also talking about the negligence of the city corporation, along with the ignorance of the residents, including littering everywhere.
Hasmat Ali, a shopkeeper next to Jheelpar and a resident of that area, said that City Corporation does not come even one day a week to spray mosquito killer medicine in this Jheel. Although some work was done during the previous government, now the importance of the city corporation is less. After evening, mosquitoes cannot stay in the shops and in the neighboring houses. Now dengue season is going on, mosquito breeding is increasing. This can cause dengue. We want to get remedy from this.
Ahnaf, a school student, said that it is a dengue factory. Mosquitoes, along with the stench, can't read properly. The canal stinks. A little rain increases the smell along with the spread of mosquitoes. Request to the city corporation to clean the canal as soon as possible and make arrangements to remove the stench and mosquitoes.
Atifa, a student of Rupnagar Model School and College, said, I pass this lake on my way to school every day. There is a lot of bad smell in the water, along with mosquitoes. Due to which it is difficult to study in the evening. People in my house also have difficulties. Now dengue season is going on, mosquito breeding is increasing. This can lead to dengue or malaria. We want to get remedy from this.
In this regard, several officials of Dhaka North City Corporation tried to communicate repeatedly, but it was not possible to get a statement from any of them.
Meanwhile, 2 thousand 648 people are infected with dengue and admitted to the hospital. Among them, 485 people are in the capital Dhaka.
