3 students die after picnic bus electrocuted
Three university students died after being electrocuted in a double-decker picnic bus in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur. Three others were seriously injured.
The accident occurred at around 10:30 am on Saturday (November 23) in Udaykhali village of Telihati union of the upazila. However, it is not yet known how the bus was electrocuted.
The deceased students are Mozammel Hossain Naeem (24), Mostakim Rahman Mahin (22) and Jobayer Alam Shakib (22). They are students of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) in Gazipur.
According to local sources, 460 teachers and students were going to a resort called Matir Maya in Pelaid village of Telihati union of Sreepur on Saturday around 10:30 am. During the journey, a bus touched an electric wire hanging on the side of the road when it reached the Udaykhali area of the upazila. At that time, six students on the upper deck of the bus were seriously injured. Among them, a student named Mahin died on the spot. The rest were rescued and sent to various hospitals in their injured condition. Later, two more students died while being taken to the hospital.
Sripur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Joynal Abedin Mandal confirmed the incident and said that one student died on the spot after being electrocuted in a university picnic bus. Two more deaths were reported after being taken to the hospital.
