Professor Asif Nazrul, Adviser to the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, said that several initiatives have been taken to print and distribute Machine Readable Passports (MRP) to expatriate Bangladeshis living in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.

On Wednesday (December 11) afternoon, he went live on his verified Facebook and told the expatriates, "You are having a lot of problems with your passports. We know this, with MRP passports. You will start receiving MRP passports from December 15. And everyone who has applied for MRP passports will receive MRP passports within the next 3 to 4 weeks."

He said that the first priority is being given to our expatriate brothers and sisters in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. After that, priority will be given to all countries where the demand is high and this problem will be resolved within 3 to 4 weeks.

Asif Nazrul said, so many MRP passports are being printed that this problem will never happen again in the next 2/3 years.

He said, the expatriates have suffered a lot because of this MRP passport. I am sincerely sorry for that. However, I humbly say that this problem was solved during the previous fascist government.

Asif Nazrul said, the problem was created when the then minister tried to give the job of printing passports to a company he knew irregularly. In that process, one and a half years were wasted in registering and tendering. It took time to cancel the entire process and go the fastest way. You have suffered a lot. I am sincerely sorry for that. InshaAllah, you will start getting passports from December 15.
