ECNEC approves projects worth Tk. 12,532 crore

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 13 projects worth Tk. 12,532 crore in a meeting. Out of the 13 projects of 9 ministries, 9 are new and 4 projects are revised. There are also two gas extraction projects.

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus approved the projects at the ECNEC meeting held at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Sunday (February 2). Planning Adviser Dr. Wahid Uddin Mahmud presented this information at a press conference after the meeting.

Out of the 13 projects approved by ECNEC, the cost of implementing 9 new projects has been estimated at Tk. 12,712,838,000. And Tk. 7,3413,056,000 for the four revised proposals. The new cost of the revised projects is increasing by Tk, 508 crore.

ECNEC has approved the drilling of 4 appraisal-cum-development wells in Titas and Kamta fields at a cost of Tk. 1,255 crore. The project will be implemented by Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL). The government is providing Tk. 872 crore for the project, and BAPEX's own financing is Tk. 382 crore. The project will be implemented from January 2025 to September 2027.

ECNEC has approved the 3D seismic survey project in Habiganj, Bakhrabad and Meghna fields. BGFCL will implement the project from January 2025 to June 2027 at a cost of Tk. 454 crore. The government will provide Tk. 312 crore for the implementation of the project. And Sylhet Gas Fields' own financing is Tk. 141 crore.

Apart from this, one project has been approved for extension. That is the Narayanganj City Corporation's Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Management (Second Revised) Fourth Extension Project.

In addition, four projects approved by the Planning Adviser were brought to the attention of ECNEC for information. These are the Capacity Building Project of the Department of Livestock; the USAID Ecosystem Project on Aquatic Ecosystem Conversion and Management in the North East and South West Region of Bangladesh; the Char Development and Settlement Project Bridging (DDSP-B) Project; and the Old Dhaka Central Jail History, Historical Building Conservation and Surrounding Development Project.
