Dhaka: Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has directed the police and law enforcement agencies to create a command center to closely monitor the law and order situation in the country.

He said this at a high-level meeting at the state guest house Jamuna in the capital on Monday (February 3).

The meeting was attended by Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Special Assistant to Chief Adviser Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, Home Secretary Nasimul Gani and heads of police, BGB, RAB, DMP, Coast Guard and special branches.

The Chief Adviser said, directing security agencies to make maximum use of the latest communication tools, told senior security officials, "We need to set up a command center or a command headquarters, which will coordinate among all police and security agencies".

He said the new command structure would "efficiently and closely" communicate between all agencies, police stations across the country and all law enforcement authorities.

Instructing security chiefs to be vigilant against any attempt to disrupt the law and order situation in Bangladesh, he said, "We must be as vigilant as if we were in a war-like situation. This year is a very critical year for the country. We should not allow anyone to create chaos and anarchy."

The chief adviser said ousted dictator Sheikh Hasina's aides were spending huge amounts of money to spread chaos and confusion.

He said, "We must be vigilant. Everyone should fight this misleading threat."

Professor Yunus said the police should set up a dedicated call number, like 999. Complainants can file an initial information report from any part of the country. This will reduce the hassle our people face while filing cases.

The Chief Adviser directed Police Chief Baharul Alam to launch a new phone number for online FIR filing as soon as possible.

The Chief Adviser directed the Police Chief to set up a dedicated call centre to answer queries regarding online case filing. He also said that those who find it difficult to file cases online can easily seek help from the call centre.

Currently, an FIR can be filed only after visiting the nearest police station. The procedure is cumbersome and leaves room for abuse.
