The Economic Affairs Task Force has recommended to dissolve Bangladesh Biman. Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud has commented that it is a worthless institution.

The adviser said these things at the press conference of the task force committee at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Monday (February 3).

He said that it needs to be worked on how it can be commercially profitable and modernized. For this, if necessary, an expert from abroad should be brought in to be the Managing Director (MD).

The task force committee report has suggested that Biman be divided into two to reduce losses, one part being managed by a foreign company and the other part by Biman. In this, both the companies will get equal opportunities. Then we will see which company does better.

The proposal raised on the task force's recommendation for the restructuring of Bangladesh Biman says that competition should be created by establishing a new airline. The possible name of this new airline could be 'Bangladesh Airways'. It will be managed by an independent, world-class management company. It will use a portion of Biman's existing assets and both companies will target separate markets and routes. There is also a plan to remove the company from the market if it fails to maintain service standards within a specified period.
