Chhatra League expels 11 leaders of BUET unit over Abrar Murder
Chhatra League Central Committee has expelled 11 leaders of the organization’s BUET unit in connection with the murder of Abrar Fahad.
The expelled are the unit’s General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Rasel, Vice-President Muhtasim Fuad, Organizing Secretary Mehedi Hasan Robin, Information and Research Secretary Anik Sarkar, Sports Secretary Mefatahul Islam Jion, Literature secretary Moniruzzaman Monir, Deputy Social Welfare secretary Ifti Mosharraf Sokal, Deputy Office Secretary Mujtaba Rafid, Member Muntasir Al Jemmy, Ehteshamul Rabbi Tanim, and Mujahidur Rahman.
A press release was issued in this regard on Monday night.
The press release reads the decision was made on the basis of findings of the committee formed
by the organization’s central committee to probe into the incident. Earlier, around 9:30pm, Abrar’s body was brought to the BUET central mosque where his first Namaz-e-Janaza was held with grief stricken family members and fellows.
Later, Abrar’s body was taken to his home in Kustia. Abrar’s body was recovered from the staircase in Sher-e-Bangla Hall at BUET in the early hours Monday.
A group of Chhatra League men allegedly beat him to death on suspicion of his involvement in Shibir, the student affiliate of Jamaat-e-Islami, following his Facebook post criticizing the Feni river deal agreed during the prime minister’s recent visit to India.
