Govt wants to finish Abrar murder trial promptly: Kamal
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said the government wants to promptly finish the trial in case filed over the murder of BUET student Abrar Fahad.
"The government wants to end the trial [of Abrar murder] promptly by submitting a flawless charge-sheet," he said while talking to reporters at Secretariat on Thursday (Oct 10).
The minister said the government 'is pained' by the murder and that police are following the direction of the prime minister in conducting investigation in the case.
He said the killers of Abrar have been identified through the closed-circuit camera footage and 14 have already been arrested in the case.
"If anyone else is involved in the incident, they cannot escape arrest… Charge-sheet in the case will be submitted shortly. Police are active to make the charge-sheet flawless," he said.
Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department, was found dead in the stairway of Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of Monday (Oct 7). Physicians later said his body bore injury marks as he was beaten to death.
Abrar’s father Barkatullah filed a case with Chowkbazar police station accusing 19 BCL leaders and activists of the murder while the central committee of the student front expelled 11 of them.
Police have arrested 14 leaders and activists of BUET unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student front of the ruling Awami League, in the case.
