Samrat sent back to jail after treatment
Expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat has been sent back to jail from the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) after his health condition improved, jail authorities said.
Superintendent at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj Mahbbul Islam said the vehicle carrying Samrat started from the NICVD for the jail around 11am on Saturday (Oct 1) following his release from the hospital.
Samrat, former president of Dhaka South unit of Jubo League, the youth front of the ruling Awami League, was admitted to the NICVD on Tuesday (Oct 9) after he complained of chest pain.
The Rapid Action Battalion arrested Samrat, along with his associate Enamul Haque Arman, from Chauddagram in Cumilla on Oct 6 for his alleged involvement in operation of illegal casinos.
The crime busting agency later conducted a raid on his office in the capital when they seized 1,160 pieces of Yaba, 19 bottles of foreign liquor, a Chinese pistol, five rounds of bullet, two skins of Kangaroos and two electric torture machines.
A mobile court of RAB sentenced him to six months in jail for violating wildlife law by keeping the skins of two kangaroos.
