Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said her government will always be working for the welfare of workers of the country as it did whenever the party came to power.
She made the assertion while addressing the 13th conference of Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik League at Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday (Nov 9).
Highlighting different steps taken by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the development of working-class people, the prime minister said he had called for the national unity bringing farmers, workers and all from public and private sectors under a single platform.
“He (Bangabandhu) dreamt of economic emancipation of the people by bringing all, irrespective of their political affiliation, under a single platform. That platform was Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League,” she added.
Sheikh Hasina said, “Bangladesh was advancing fast at that time with over 7 percent [GDP] growth. We’re unfortunate that Bangladesh experienced the deadliest shock at the time -- the Father of the Nation and most of his family members were killed. My sister and I escaped the carnage as we were abroad.”
The prime minister said the people of the country is benefiting greatly from the continuation of the Awami League government.
Listing her administration’s steps for the welfare of workers, she said the government has formulated Child Lobour Elimination Policy-2010 and Bangladesh Labour Policy-2012, raised wages for workers in 42 sectors, and introduced rationing system for workers.
