The High Court has said it will interfere in the matters relating to the prices of onion unless the rates of the kitchen item do not decline in a week.
“Wait for a week. If the onion prices do not come to normal during the period, we’ll interfere in the matters,” the court told a petitioner on Sunday (Nov 17).
The bench comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam made the advice during the hearing on a writ petition filed by lawyer Tanvir Ahmed.
The petitioner sought High Court directive to find out those responsible for the unusual price hikes of onion, which is now selling at up to Tk 240 a kg.
He also sought rule asking why the failure of the agencies concerned to arrest onion prices will not be declared illegal.
The authorities concerned, including the Anti-Corruption Commission, have been made respondents in the petition.
