Month long branding fair begins in Faridpur
A month long branding fair organized by Faridpur district administration has begun in Faridpur on Saturday (Nov.30) afternoon here at local Government Rajendra college ground.
Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain MP, AL Advisory Council member and president of the Standing Committee of the LGRD & Cooperatives ministry in the Jatiyo Sangsad inaugurated the month long fair amid much fanfare as the chief guest.
Addressing the huge gathering at the fair venue Engineer Mosharraf said that Bangladesh has entered a new era of development from 2009 under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Mosharraf said that the Prime Minister has directed the concerned to select all 64 districts with their own respective famous product. Accordingly, this district has been branded with its best product golden fiber ‘Jute’. Now Faridpur is known in the outside world as the best jute producing district.
Mosharraf said that due to invention of synthetic packaging, the importance and demand of the jute had once declined sharply but as the synthetic packaging is not eco-friendly, so the world has again come back to jute as the best packaging fiber increasing the demand of jute. Once Jute was the only cash crop of Bangladesh, Mosharraf said.
Mosharraf also said that during last ten years of Awami League(AL) rule this district has progressed to such extent that it was not achieved in last forty years. This district was deficit in food production but now it has become a surplus zone, he added. He called upon all to rally under the banner of AL. m
Presiding over the inaugural function Deputy Commissioner(DC) of Faridpur Atul Sarkar thanked the veteran and senior politician of the country Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf for inaugurating this fair.
Atul Sarkar in his brief speech said that we like to brand Fraidpur with jute as this district produces best quality of jute of the world. The quantity and quality of jute has led the entrepreneurs to set up a large number of jute and spinning mills in this district, DC said. He asked the visitors to come to this fair to know many more unknown uses of jute.
The inaugural function was also addressed among others ADC(Rev) Md. Aslam Molla, Police Super Mr. Alimuzzaman, AL district committee president Advocate Subal Chandra Saha, Jute merchant Jahangir Mia and Awami League leader Nazmul Hassan Khan Levi.
It is learnt from the fair sources, that about 55 stalls have been set up with displaying jute products, hand crafts, cottage products, pottery products, farm products and service centers.
