PM opens AL 21st national council

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated the two-day 21st national council of the ruling party at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.

Upon her arrival at the council venue around 3:10pm on Friday (Dec 20), she hoisted the national flag and then released balloons and pigeons to open the grant gathering of the party.

Senior Awami League leaders, including party General Secretary Obaidul Quader, received the prime minister at the venue.

Thousands of councillors, delegates, leaders and activists of the party started to gather at the venue since morning. The entire Suhrawardy Udyan and its adjacent areas have been wrapped in security blanket centring the gathering.

Opposition Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader and Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, Dhaka-based diplomats from different countries attend the council.

The last council of the party was held on Oct 22 and 23, 2016 at the same venue in which Sheikh Hasina was re-elected party president and Obaidul Quader elected general secretary.
