‘You are Rapist’
The roar in the city of Valparaiso, Chile, in Latin America, was heard on November 25 last year. In Spanish language everyone was shouting and shouting. Saying, 'El Violado's Ares Tu', in Bengali, means: 'You are the rapist'.
The uprising against student rape reminded Chile's widespread protests on the campus of Dhaka University. Because, the campus has erupted in protests all day long. There were also candles lit at night.
The students' protest reminds them of how fragile the women of Bangladesh are. At the grassroots level, women from the highest levels of the country have not been able to escape rape. Statistics show that at least four women are being raped every day in Bangladesh! Even a Foreign Service official posted abroad was victim of rape harassment by he colleagues, learnt from the High Court proceedings.
Women are being raped all over the world, not just Bangladesh or Chile. Regardless of developed or underdeveloped country, women are being attacked by brutality of the men. As a result, a fragment of a sudden demonstration against rape and total masculinity, not only in Chile or Bangladesh, has also occasionally taken place near the New Market at Dharmatala of Kolkata, in the cities of Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata. In the past year and the beginning of the New Year, the cities have faced violence against women and protests against it.
As a result, protesting against rape mentality through 'Feminist Intervention' or 'feminist uprising' has become an important social-conscious action. Forcing women to come to the streets to protest.
In the Chilean feminist organization 'Las Tessis', the people of that country raised their finger against rape and feminist violence, standing beside the women there. The roar later spread to several places, including Santiago, Mexico, Argentina, the United States and London, Paris, Germany.
The movement came to Calcutta after Latin America, North America, Europe, South Asia, Delhi and Chennai. Participants were quoted as saying, "The Chilean protest video went viral on social media. Seeing this, we think of such a protest in Kolkata. Thinking on Face book spreads in the society of many shares.
Along with friend’s familiar with Face book, many unknown friends also joined the movement. They developed the Spanish language of Las Tessis in Bengali in terms of their country. Then it was transmitted to Jadavpur University. Rehearsals of the protest program are on the highway.
Some men and transgender also stand by the program called 'Feminist Struggle'. Everyone declares, 'what am I wearing, where have I gone, it is not my fault. The blame lies with the society, who is conservative, fanatical, radical and homophobic, Tran’s phobic, feminist and fascist. ‘Protesters came forward with a direct accusation against such a backward social system, saying that you are a rapist.
The Bangladesh Anti-Rape Movement did not develop in the spirit of Chile or any other country. The anti-rape movement is going on in direct response to the Kurmitola burning incident in Dhaka. Not only Kurmitola, but there are hundreds of thousands of instances of rape in the country, which have seen small movements. And needless to say, most of the movements failed. Raped women have been further harassed. Nothing happened to the rapist.
Yet in various countries of the world, there has been a movement against the government or society seeking remedy for rape. Also it is happening in Bangladesh too. People have been vocal against the patriarchal attitude. In Bangladesh, the rate of rape is increasing and the accused remain out of justice, at one time not only rapists but everyone in society will be accused. If you raise your finger to the society for the prevention of rape and the failure to try the rapist, then you are accused, 'you are the rapist', then no one could answer!
