Dense fog forces halt of ferry movement at Paturia–Daulatdia
Due to drizzle whole day dense fog, ferries have been closed for a long time in Paturia-Daulatdia maritime ports on river Padma. Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded on both sides of the river causing untold sufferings to the passengers of long route. The number of stranded vehicles is increasing rapidly on this important highway.
DGM Zillur Rahman, acting in charge of the BIWTC Aricha office at 8am on Wednesday (Feb. 26) told barta24.com that the ferry movement was stopped from 12.30pm on Tuesday due to drizzling rains and thick fog.
Due to this, there is a long queue of vehicles waiting for the ferries in both parts of the river. He added that more than 700 vehicles are waiting for ferry crossing. Most of the waiting vehicles are goods laden trucks.
Zillur Rahman said the ferry movement would be resumed only after the fog is reduced, adding that the ambulance, private small cars, emergency cargo trucks and buses will be ferried on priority basis only after the ferry service starts.
Sixteen ferries move on this route, he added.
