Mobile operator Robi pays second installment to BTRC
Mobile operator Robi Axiata paid their second installment amounting to Taka 27 crore 60 lakh to BTRC following the instructions of the High Court.
After proper auditing Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) demanded Taka 138 crore to Robi and 12 thousand 579 crores 96 lakh to GP. Primarily both the operators refused to pay and sought the shelter to High Court. However, the Court gave verdict in favor of BTRC.
BTRC meanwhile imposed restrictions on both the operators on expansion of their networks and many other bans. Finally, the operators had to yield when BTRC announced appointments of administrators failing to pay their dues.
Robi paid their first installments on last January 14 and the second was paid on last February 10 which was due on February 29, much ahead of the scheduled in fear of further reprisal.
On the other hand, GP paid their first installment of Taka 1000 crore on last February 24. They will have to pay their second installment within next three months.
One BTRC official said that the mobile operators have understood that the government would go tough failing to make their dues. This mentality of the government has prompted the mobile operators to abide by the court decision.
