India lifts ban on onion export
India has lifted the ban on export of onion. On Monday (March 2) the commerce ministry of India has issued an order to this effect.
In the notification it has been told that from March 15 this order will be effective. Besides, the minimum condition regarding price earlier imposed will be lifted. From now on the Indian exporters can export at any price.
Earlier on last September 29, India announced the export of onion. This had created very adverse impacts in Bangladesh onion market. The price had reached to Taka 250 per kilogram.
After the Indian export was shut, Bangladeshi traders tilted towards Myanmar’s onion. Till February of the current year about 1 lakh 7 metric tons of onion was exported from Myanmar.
