Akij groups to resume coronavirus hospital work
Dhaka: Akiz Group, county’s leading industrial giant is building a 301-bed for the treatment of coronavirus patients. The company took the initiative to provide free coronary treatment to patients at the hospital.
For this reason, work was started on the Akij Group's own two bighas of land at Tejgaon in the capital. But the local councilor and his supporters halted construction work two days after the full-scale work has begun. They stopped the construction of the hospital. However, they have resumed construction of the hospital, overcoming all obstacles.
Akij Group Director Sheikh Shamim Uddin told barta24.com that our work was temporarily interrupted. We have talked to the government about this. We will start working for the hospital again soon.
Asked if he was thinking about security, he said, we need to finish the hospital well. Whenever we need assistance, we will seek assistance.
Akhiz Group senior officials came to visit the hospital on Monday (March 30) after the interruption of ward councilor Shafiullah Shafi and his supporters in ward number 24 of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). At that time, an army team was present.
After visiting the place for hours, they discussed how to start and finish the construction of the hospital in a hurry.
At noon, the hospital was completely closed. Practically there was no worker. The security guard, however, surrounded the place.
Jasimuddin, who is the security guard of the hospital, told barta24.com that senior officers of the group and members of the army came in the morning. They have visited the place again. They told us to start the work again very soon.
Asked if the army was cooperating in constructing the hospital, Assistant Director of ISPR Rashedul Alam Khan told barta24.com that the army patrol team was going to different places, not specifically for any cooperation.
The Akij group was hoping that corona patients could be started treatment at the hospital within two weeks. And that is why the Akij hospital building work located behind the Shanta Tower on the Tejgaon-Gulshan Link Road was going on.
But at around 1 pm on last Saturday (March 28), about 200 people came and stayed for a while and protested the construction work. After this incident, the construction of the hospital was stopped.
On that day, Councilor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) ward 24, Shafiullah Shafi told the media, I think since it is a mahalla, it would not be right for the construction of a coronavirus hospital. I am not in favor of it, but I haven not stopped the work. Thousands of people came here to hear that there would be a hospital for the treatment of coronavirus patients. I came and calmed them down.
