Low income people get gift of Prime Minister before Eid
The government provided financial assistance to low-income helpless people before Eid –ul-Fitr. On Thursday (May 14) at 11:30 am, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the program of direct cash remittance to the beneficiaries through mobile banking services from Ganobhaban. At the same time, she also inaugurated the distribution of stipends and tuition fees for undergraduate and equivalent level of 2019 students.
Through this, cash will reach the low-income helpless people who lost their jobs in the corona crisis. Earlier, during a video conference with the districts on the corona situation, the Prime Minister announced that cash would be delivered to unemployed people before Eid. In its continuation, 50 lakh families are getting Eid gifts from the Prime Minister. About 2 crore people will be benefitted from this cash assistance with 4 members in each family. Taka 1,250 crore has been allocated for this.
The assistance program covers rickshaw pullers, van drivers, day laborers, construction workers, agricultural workers, shop workers; workers in various businesses run by individual, poultry farm workers, bus-truck transport workers and people of various low-income professions those who have become unemployed due to lockdown. Each family will be given 2500 rupees.
Already low-income people deserving of assistance have been listed. The list has been prepared by a committee comprising district administration, upazilla administration, union chairman, village members, teachers and dignitaries of the society.
The money will go directly through Nagad, bKash, Rocket, and Sure Cash among those listed. As a result, there will be no additional hassle. The cost of sending money will be borne by the government. Outside these 50 lakh families, about 2 crore members of another 50 lakh families are already covered by VGF cards. There are also freedom fighter allowance, old age allowance, widow allowance, education allowance and handicapped allowance.
