Cyclone Amphan crossing Khulna

Strong cyclonic storm Amphan formed in the Bay of Bengal has now entered Bangladesh and crossing the Khulna coast.

Amirul Azad, a senior meteorologist at the Khulna Regional Meteorological Office, told on Wednesday (May 20) evening that the very strong cyclone 'Amphan' has hit the country's landmass. The tip of cyclone Amphan is currently crossing the coastal region of Khulna. As a result, strong winds are blowing from Khulna at a speed of 60 kmph. It will cross the Khulna coast in the next 1 to 2 hours. Then the wind speed will be 80 to 100 kilometers.

He added that 41 mm of rainfall has been recorded in Khulna from 7 am to 6 pm throughout the day. It is still raining under the influence of Amphan. However, the excess of wind from the rain is going to be noticed. Cyclone Amphan will take 1 to 2 hours to cross the coastal areas of Khulna Mongla-Bagerhat-Satkhira. However, Amphan will be gradually weakened while on the ground.

It is learned from the coastal areas that the panicked coastal people have rushed to the shelter as the storm started just before dusk. The coastal areas of Khulna, Dakope-Botiaghata-Paikgachha and Koira's domestic cattle have been freed. Cattle have also taken shelter at safe places.
