Amphan is now only a ground depression
Cyclone Amphan, which has been located in Jhenaidah and adjoining areas, is moving towards further north getting weak and is located in Rajshahi and Pabna areas in the form of deep ground depression. Despite being weak, the Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to lower the danger signal number 10 and hoist the local cautionary signal number 3 instead.
On Thursday (May 21) morning, the Meteorological Department said it could move further north-northeast and gradually become weak with rain.
Due to the effects of the cyclone, the coastal areas of Bangladesh are experiencing high air pressure variations, the sea is rough. At the same time, Chittagong and Cox's Bazar seaports have been asked to lower the danger signal number 9 and hoist the local remote cautionary signal number 3.
Coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barisal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni and Chittagong and their adjacent islands and chars may be flooded by high tides.
Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barisal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni and Chittagong and their remote islands and chars may experience heavy rains along with strong of 40-59 km per hour.
All fishing boats and trawlers in the Bay of Bengal and the deep sea have been asked to remain in safe shelter until further notice.
