‘Government assistance to be continued’ - Prime Minister
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the government's incentive program will continue till the corona situation returns to normal.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made the call in her address to the nation on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday (May 24) at 7.30 pm.
The whole world is in turmoil today because of the deadly coronavirus pandemic, she said. In addition to the loss of countless lives, the pandemic has taken a heavy toll on people's livelihood. Everything, including offices, courts, mills and businesses, had to be shut down except for some emergency services to prevent the spread of the infection. Millions of people are unemployed today. They have lost their livelihood.
Highlighting the steps taken by the government, Sheikh Hasina said the government has taken all possible initiatives to help these unemployed people. In addition to food aid, cash is being provided. So far, 1 lakh 82 thousand 8 metric tons of rice and Taka 91 crore 46 lakh 72 thousand in cash have been allocated. 60,000 metric tons of rice has been allotted for sale at the rate of Taka 10 per kg. In May, an additional 50 lakh cards were distributed to poor families to buy rice. A total of Taka 12050 crore has been given to 50 lakh such families who have lost their jobs but are not included in any assistance program through mobile phones at the rate of Taka 2500.
More than 16 crore rupees has been provided in two phases for the students and teachers of Qawmi Madrasas and 122 crore 2 lakh 15 thousand rupees for the Imams and Muezzins of mosques across the country. Besides, special measures have been taken to help the marginalized sections of the society.
