Beximco ships PPE gowns to USA
The first shipment of 1.5 lakh pieces PPEs made by Beximco to deal with the coronavirus was sent to the United States. Two months ago, Beximco received an order to export 65 lakh pieces of PPE to the US market. An Emirates flight with its first shipment left for the United States at noon on Monday (May 25). Before the departure a brief ceremony was held at Hazrat Shahjalal Airport.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam and US Ambassador Earl Miller were present on the occasion.
A press statement from Beximco said the product had been sent to the Federal Emergency Management Agency through the US brand Haynes.
Like the rest of the world, we are in trouble and trying to adapt to the new situation, Shahriyar Alam said. In these difficult times, in just two months, we have been able to send not 10,000 or 20,000 pieces, but 65 lakh pieces of high-quality sensitive health products to regulated markets like the United States.
Ambassador Earl Miller said that the United States congratulated Bangladesh on its ability to produce PPE on a large scale. The Beximco-Haynes partnership is a great example of how the two countries are able to deal with Covid-19.
Nazmul Hasan, managing director of Beximco Pharma, said there is a shortage of PPE around the world. That is why we are producing it. We supply PPE locally as well as export abroad.
