Italian PM did not term Bangladeshis as ‘Virus bombs’
The Prime Minister of Italy did not term the Bangladeshis as ‘virus bomb’. News published in several Bangladeshi newspapers has drawn the attention of the foreign ministry of Bangladesh by incorrectly quoting the Prime Minister of Italy Giuseppe Conte as saying the Bangladeshis are ‘virus bombs’.
The foreign ministry said in a press release on Saturday (July 11th).
The statement said that some media outlets have published exaggerated news on the issue. News papers have wrongly quoted the Prime Minister of Italy as saying that Bangladeshis are 'virus bombs'. The Foreign Ministry wanted to emphasize that the Italian Prime Minister has never said such a thing about the Bangladeshis.
Speaking to a Spanish TV channel during his recent visit to Madrid, the Italian Prime Minister noted that more than 20 percent of passengers on recent flights from Bangladesh had tested positive. Italy will not go through the Covid-19 situation again. To that end, Italy has been forced to stop flying from Bangladesh.
It may be mentioned that Bangladesh is not the only country in this list. Italy has suspended flights with 12 other countries and the decision will be reviewed on July 14, 2020.
