Youth and Volunteers role seen as critical during covid-19 pandemic
‘Youth and Volunteers are playing a critical role during covid-19 pandemic in Bangladesh as they served as first responders to the community in this difficult time. Thousands of volunteers came forward to extend their support to the people across the country despite their health risks. It is now a test for the Government, development partners and civil society on how they retain and recognize these volunteers through creating a broader platform, to keep their engagement and interest for broader cause,’ addressed by the speakers yesterday during a live talk show on COVID19 Pandemic Bangladesh: Youth & Volunteerism’, arranged by UNV Bangladesh and Aparajeo Bangla.
Ms. Bonna Mirza, Actor and Head of Marketing, Bangla Tribune, Mr. Md. Aktar Uddin, Country Coordinator, UNV Bangladesh, and Ms. Barish Haque, Dancer and Presenter spoke at this interactive session. Mr. Mahmood Menon, Journalist and Teacher, moderated the talk.
Families can play an important role by believing in their daughters and sons and inspire their volunteer works to take up challenges, Ms Bonna Mirza highlighted.
Moneyed men can be the part of voluntary activities by offering monetary support, she added.
‘’Despite the challenges, UN Volunteers, Bangladesh has successfully mobilized hundreds of youths during Covid-19 pandemic ensuring their physical, social, financial safety and security," said Mr. Md Aktar Uddin.
"We all, including the youth, teachers, journalists, artists, need to come together with a collective effort to enforce the idea of volunteerism in development mechanism,’’ Mr Uddin emphasized.
Ms. Barish shared how she supported the food and monetary aid distribution, feeding street animals during the pandemic.
Speakers also gave insightful direction to the youth and volunteers’ different queries.
More than two thousands youth and volunteers joined the online live show.
The vast majority of volunteers are already working day in, day out in their own communities. Each one of us, can be volunteers and change the world – locally and globally – for the better- being ready for what comes, the discussants opined.
