Today on January 4, is the 73rd founding anniversary of Bangladesh Chhatra League(BCL). On this day in 1948, Chhatra League was established at Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall of Dhaka University. This student organization of pride and tradition was established a year before the birth of Bangladesh Awami League.

Chhatra League has a glorious history. After its establishment in 1948, Chhatra League played a leading role in the historical language movement of 1952, teachers' strike of 1957, education movement of 1962, mass uprising of 1969 and the great liberation war of 1971.

The struggling role of Chhatra League, a fraternal organization of Awami League, in the democratic movement at different times in independent Bangladesh is especially memorable.

On the occasion of the founding anniversary, this traditional student organization will hoist the national and party flags at the party's central office and party offices across the country at 7:30 am today. Wreaths will be laid at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi No. 32 at 8 am and cakes will be cut at the Curzon Hall premises of Dhaka University at 9 am.

Besides, a delegation of Bangladesh Chhatra League Central Executive Committee’s paying homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara at 10 am and participated in Fateha recitation and prayer mahfil.

On the occasion of the 73rd founding anniversary of Chhatra League, a discussion meeting will be organized by Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium at 4 pm today. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the guardian of Bangladesh Chhatra League, will join the meeting as the chief guest in a live video conference from Ganobhaban.
