Commenting that fair elections are not possible under the current government, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that going to elections under this government is like giving a chicken lease to a fox.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam said these words at a student convention organized by 'Anti-Fascist Student Union' at Ramna Engineers Institution Auditorium on Thursday (October 12) evening.

He said, Awami League is the most deceitful party, they do the opposite of what they say. They told the US Pre-Election Assessment Mission that they conducted the last two elections fairly and we will do the same again in the next elections.

This senior BNP leader said that the Awami regime had a good election in 2014, where 153 MPs were elected unopposed and in 2018, voting was held the night before the election.

He said, they are now asking to trust them because they will hold fair elections again. It's like feeding a chicken to a fox. You will not be given another chance. Enough is enough.

Lamenting that the government has destroyed the economy, Fakhrul said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to different countries as part of her efforts to counter foreign pressure to come to power and hold credible elections.

I want to say that your time is up and no strategy will work as people are fed up with your misrule. They (the people) want freedom from oppression, theft and corruption. So there is still time to accept the demand of holding elections under a non-partisan neutral government.

The BNP leader questioned why the government claims popularity among the people for its development activities, then why they are afraid of fair elections.

Fakhrul said that students have changed society and established human rights through democratic movements in the past. "We are now optimistic about the success of our movement, as the students are now united again to defeat the fascist forces.

He said that they have embarked on a hard struggle to overthrow the fascist government that has destroyed the hopes and aspirations of the people and turned Bangladesh into a hell.
