BNP’s hunger strike program demanding Khaleda Zia's release
The leaders and activists of BNP will hold a hunger strike in the metropolitan and district cities of the country including Dhaka to demand the treatment abroad and release of sick BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The hunger strike will be held for three hours on Saturday (October 14) from 11 am to 2 pm.
The hunger strike will continue in front of the BNP office in Nayapaltan of the capital. The party's general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will be the chief guest.
Along with the BNP, members of like-minded political parties and alliances in simultaneous movement will also hold a hunger strike for the same demand.
The coordinator of the 12-party alliance, Bangladesh Jatiyo Party Chairman Syed Ehsanul Huda, gave this information.
He told the media that a symbolic fasting and mass rally will be held in front of the Vijayanagar water tank (Vijay Chatwar) from 10:30 am to 1 pm.
Apart from this, a hunger strike program will be held in front of Purana Paltan Al-Razi Complex from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and on the opposite side of Motijheel Notre Dame College under the initiative of Gono Forum (Mantu) and People's Party.
Khaleda Zia is suffering from various physical complications apart from heart problems and liver cirrhosis. In the meantime, she was admitted to the hospital several times and received treatment.
Khaleda Zia's angiogram was done in June last year revealing three blocks in her heart. A ring was set on one of them. Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital on August 9 due to physical illness. Since then she has been under treatment in this hospital.
The medical board formed for the treatment of Khaleda Zia said in a press conference on Monday(October 9) that her life is at risk and she will have to be taken abroad for liver transplant. Recently, when the family applied to the government for medical treatment abroad, it was rejected by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Law.
