West Indies without Holder–Pollard and ten others are coming
Bangladesh has not been on the field for a long time due to the Corona pandemic. The wait is finally over. The Tigers are set to return to international cricket with a series against the West Indies. As usual, the Caribbean team is going to set foot in Dhaka in January.
But so far almost everything is fine but not just the Windies team. They are not coming to Bangladesh with full strength team but with new weaker squad.
Due to the sudden increase in coronavirus infection, 10 of the team's regular cricketers are not coming on tour. Test captain Jason Holder and limited-overs captain Kieron Pollard are out of contingent for the Covid-19.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has given a tour chart to Bangladesh on Tuesday. Darren Bravo, Shamarah Brooks, Roston Chase, Sheldon Cottrell, Evin Lewis, Shy Hope, Shimron Hetmeyer and Nicholas Puran have withdrawn their names from the tour with Pollard and Holders for Corona.
However, all-rounder Fabian Allen and wicketkeeper-batsman Shane Dowrich have left the squad for personal reasons.
Opening batsman Craig Brathwaite will lead the Tests as Holder is not in the squad. He also led the Windies on their last tour of Bangladesh in 2016. Jermaine Blackwood is the co-captain.
For the first time, top-order batsmen Cavem Hodge, left-arm opener Shane Mozley and Kyle Myers have been named in the red ball squad.
As Pollard refused to come to Bangladesh, the responsibility of captaining the ODI team fell on Jason Mohammed. Although he last played for the West Indies in 2018. Sunil Ambris will be the Caribbean vice-captain in the long version of cricket.
Left-arm spinning all-rounder Akil Hossain and left-arm top-order batsman Kejran Ottley are the new faces in the ODI squad.
West Indies cricketers will arrive in Dhaka on January 10 to play two Tests and three ODIs. The two ODIs will be played in Dhaka on January 20 and 22. The last ODI in Chittagong will be held on January 25. The two Tests will start in Chittagong and Dhaka on February 3 and 11.
