Remittance continues to slump in September

Remittance continued to dip for the third consecutive month in September due to impact of Covid-19 pandemic across the globe, with seemingly no respite in the coming days.

The Bangladesh Bank (BB), the central bank of the country, confirmed the matter to media on Sunday (October 3).

According to the information of Bangladesh Bank (BB), the remittance follow in September was US dollar 162 crore 62 lakh and as money (Tk 85 per dollar) which amounts to Tk 14,672 crore and Tk 70, which is Tk 713 crore less than August.

Remittance inflow declined 8 percent year-on-year in August to $180 crore, the lowest in the past six months.

The sources said, in the August, the expatriates sent remittance of 181 crore dollars and in August last year, the expatriate income came to 196 crore dollars. As a result, expatriate income fell by about 8 percent in August compared to the previous year.

Apart from this, in the first month of the current 2021-22 fiscal year, compared to July, the remittance follow has decreased by about 3.25 percent in August.

In July, expatriates sent remittances of US dollar 187 crore 14 lakh 90,000, which is 6.93 crore US dollar less than in June and 27.98 percent less than the same period last year (July 2020).

In July last year, 259 crore 72 lakh dollars remittance came in the country.
