The executive director of the private research institute Policy Research Institute (PRI). The government has appointed Ahsan H. Mansoor as the new governor of Bangladesh Bank.
This information has been confirmed from sources in the banking division on Tuesday (August 13). He will succeed Abdur Rauf Talukdar.
The age limit for the appointment of the governor is being removed.
Dr. Mansoor started his career in 1976 as a lecturer in the Economics Department of Dhaka University. According to the Bangladesh Policy Research Institute website, the same year he left for Canada to pursue higher studies in economics.
As a graduate student and research assistant, he also taught regular undergraduate economics courses at the University of Western Ontario, Canada (1978–81).
He then joined the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the Economist Program in 1981 and then completed his PhD in Economics from the University of Western Ontario in 1982.
In his long career in the IMF Dr. Ahsan H. Mansoor has worked in various countries in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Central America.
He has worked in the IMF's key functional divisions (Fiscal Affairs and Policy Review and Development Division) and regional divisions (Middle East and Central Asia and Asian Division).
He also served as Senior Resident Representative of the IMF in Pakistan from 1998 to 2001 and Financial Advisor to the Minister of Finance, Government of Bangladesh (1989-91).
