Four officials and one employee of Petrobangla have been temporarily suspended in connection with the attack on Petrobangla's head office (Petrocenter). They have been accused of aiding and abetting the attack on some disorderly officers and employees of the Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company.

On Tuesday (September 10) at around 11 am, the angry people vandalized the ground floor of Petrobangla's head office Petrocenter located in Karwan Bazar, and when they tried to block it, Petrobangla officials and employees were also attacked. The incident started with the demand to cancel the appointment of the newly appointed Managing Director Shahnewaz Parvez of Titas Gas.

The suspended officers are DGM (Service) Abdul Jalil, DGM (Research and Survey) Tariqul Islam, Manager (Engineering) Md. Saifuddin and Manager (Planning Engineering) Fazlul Haque and Senior Assistant (Administration) Nazrul Islam. A case has been filed against them. They have been sent on compulsory leave from service, the letter said.

On the other hand, Petrobangla Chairman Janendra Nath Sarkar said that a departmental case has been filed against five-six people identified by Titas.

On September 9, the Ministry canceled the contract of engineer Harunur Rashid Mollah, Managing Director of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company, who was appointed on contractual basis. After that Shahnewaz Parvez, Managing Director of Gas Transmission Company, was given the current charge of Managing Director of Titas Gas. Shahnewaz Parvez is known to all as honest and efficient which is believed to be one of the reasons for concern for the corrupt officials of Titas Gas.

According to Titas Gas sources, since the assignment of Shahnewaz Parvez, GM (ESD) of Titas Helal Talukdar, GM (Audit), Md. Rashidul Alam, DGM (PCD) Engineer Enamul Haque, Prepaid Meter Project PD Kawsar Alam Sumon started inciting others. They escaped to Petrobangla and led the attack.

Chairman of Petrobangla told reporters at noon, they may have objections about the new MD, they could have informed us and we would have considered it. But they did not do that and attacked with sticks. When the people of Petrobangla spoke about their negotiations, the ground floor was vandalized. Action will be taken against those involved after viewing the CCTV footage.

Chairman of Petrobangla Janendra Nath Sarkar told Barta24.com that Titas people are demanding that MD be made from among their officers. But there is no one in the top 50-60 of Titas Gas in Petrobangla's seniority list. Again there are allegations of corruption against many. By doing this, a class of people is trying to condone corruption. The policy of the Interim government is zero tolerance against corruption.
