The Kalema inscribed national flag of Saudi Arabia is being replaced to prevent unintentional negligence. The new flag will have the name of Saudi Arabia written in Arabic and English.

Last Monday, the Saudi parliament voted to approve a draft amendment to the nearly 50-year-old royal decree of the Shura flag.

According to the country's state-run media, the change is aimed at ensuring proper use of relevant laws to prevent unintentional neglect of the flag.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the implementation of the proposal to reform the national flag, emblem and music after the consent of the Security and Military Affairs Committee of the Shura now depends on the final approval of Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press reports that the consent of the Saudi Shura Council is the final step in implementing and reforming any law. As such, the king's approval is now a formality. The flag and music are being changed as part of Prince Mohammed bin Salman's 'Vision 2030'.

Since 1983, the green Saudi flag has been inscribed in white calligraphy. Below Kalema is with a sword.
