The US is going to give Ukraine 'forbidden' cluster bombs to counterattack against Russia.
The White House has said the US administration has long held back on supplying Ukraine with cluster bombs out of concern that unexploded bombs could harm civilians.
According to the BBC, due to the shortage of ammunition, Ukraine has been asking for weapons from the West, including the United States, for the past few months. The country called for a quick supply of its arsenal before it runs out.
US National Security Adviser Jack Sullivan said at a White House briefing on Friday (July 7) that Ukraine has made a commitment to minimize potential civilian casualties. In addition, Russia is using cluster bombs in war. Therefore, whether the United States gives these weapons to Kiev or not, the issue of damage will be important.
Jack Sullivan also said that Ukraine has promised not to use these weapons on the territory of other countries. Kiev's troops will use it only to launch counterattacks on their own borders.
Human rights groups have called on both Russia and Ukraine not to use cluster bombs. They also requested not to supply this bomb to the United States.
